In my experience of working with people and organisations, I started understanding cognitive culture by observing verbal cues like language spoken, phrases used and also by using positive inquiries. 

What are emotions?

Emotions are nonverbal cues such as facial expressions and body language. Observed and sensing emotions can help in understanding people and environment better. As emotions are like body compass. 

Observing Emotions

For example in my observations of emotions where top management was very demanding and aggressive, I observed the emotions of people before the meeting, during the meeting and after the meeting. That reveled frustration, sadness, fatigue and withdrawal symptoms during the meeting and less eye contact among the members of the team. Before the meeting, the subjects had sadness, frustration, etc on the faces. Sensing emotions can reveal a lot about the culture of an organization and its effectiveness.

The Role of a Leader in shaping the emotional culture ;

The Role of leader is very important in shaping and creating emotional culture by influencing how people think and behave on the job. Seek feedback from the team during the task, after completion and perhaps even every day before everyone leaves work. Analyze emotions to facilitate, understand, manage and encourage them to better express themselves at work.
